Tech-driven solutions to support conservation efforts and wildlife security across Southern Africa.

About
WildSky Foundation

WildSky Foundation was born out of a deep urgency to support the frontline of conservation in Southern Africa—where dedicated teams work tirelessly to combat wildlife crime and protect endangered species, particularly in the face of devastating threats like rhino poaching.

While advanced technologies such as drones, sensors, and tracking systems have the power to transform conservation outcomes, most organisations in the region are severely under-resourced and unable to afford or deploy these tools.

WildSky Foundation was established to bridge this gap—connecting committed conservation teams with the funding and support needed to access critical technology. Our mission is to ensure that every conservation effort, regardless of size or budget, has the opportunity to succeed—because in this fight, technology can mean the difference between survival and extinction.

Our Mission

To drive the integration and operation of high-tech / high-impact anti-poaching and general wildlife conservation solutions throughout Southern Africa.

Our Vision

To realize a future where technology plays a significant role in the successful preservation of natural African heritage, especially our most vulnerable species, for the benefit of all future generations.

Join us at the intersection of innovation and conservation.

The WildSky Foundation is a Non-Profit Organization established to raise donor funding for the deployment of cutting-edge tech and skilled ground-teams in Southern Africa’s most susceptible reserves.

With over 30 combined years of passionate drone and conservation experience within our directorship, we have an intimate understanding of the surveillance tech landscape and its applicability within wildlife conservation. The continued successes of our ground-teams are testimony to this.

Rarely does funding have as direct and tangible an impact as a donation to the WildSky Foundation.

Our Offering

WildSky Foundation bridges the gap between conservation and innovation, ensuring frontline teams have access to the advanced technologies they need to protect biodiversity and restore ecosystems. We believe the future of conservation lies in smart, scalable solutions that empower those on the ground, where impact matters most.

From drone technology and remote sensing to data-driven tools, we fund and facilitate innovation that strengthens both landscapes and the communities that depend on them. By equipping conservation teams with the right tools, we help build ecological resilience and drive meaningful, measurable change.

At WildSky Foundation, we’re not just funding tech—we’re engineering a wilder, more sustainable tomorrow.

What We Do

The Impact of

Conservation Technology

  • Drone-assisted patrols reduce poacher encounters by enabling stealthy, fast surveillance.
  • AI-enabled alert systems flag potential poaching threats from sensor networks or trap cameras instantly.
  • Thermal and IR imaging enhances night-time visibility and improves detection during low-visibility operations.
  • LoRa/GPS collars and aerial receivers help locate tagged wildlife within minutes rather than hours.
  • Remote surveillance limits ranger exposure to high-risk zones.
  • Live drone feeds during incidents support command-and-control decision-making from safe locations.
  • Improved terrain awareness via 3D mapping supports safer ground navigation.
  • Real-time wildlife tracking improves species monitoring accuracy and understanding of animal movement patterns.
  • Automated camera traps detect elusive or nocturnal species with less human effort.
  • Environmental sensors measure temperature, humidity, and water quality, helping predict threats to ecosystems.
  • Machine learning models detect changes in biodiversity indicators and ecosystem degradation faster than manual analysis.
  • Satellite and drone imagery enable large-scale habitat mapping and deforestation alerts.
  • Centralised data dashboards integrate tracking, camera, and sensor data to guide management decisions.
  • Real-time telemetry and reporting reduce decision-making delays during crises.
  • Advanced data collection methods offer unparalleled perspectives to conservation teams, which enhances the decision-making process.
  • Drones cost 80–90% less per hour to operate than manned aircraft or helicopter patrols.
  • Remote monitoring stations reduce the need for continuous on-site staff, saving long-term operational costs.
  • Targeted deployment of resources using sensor data prevents waste and optimises ranger efforts.
  • Reduced wear on vehicles and fuel use through virtual or drone-based inspections and surveys.
  • Modular tech systems can be deployed across reserves, parks, or regions.
  • Cloud-based software platforms allow remote coordination and oversight of multiple teams.

Funding Priorities

WildSky Foundation directs all donor support to where it delivers maximum conservation impact. Below are the key funding areas:

1.

To defend vast, inaccessible wilderness, we need equipment that can go where people can’t. Depending on the version being deployed, each drone patrol has the potential to closely protect tens of thousands of hectares – a game-changer for rhinos, elephants, and other countless vulnerable species.

Our 2025–2026 CAPEX needs include:

  • Robust 4×4 Vehicles
  • Long-endurance/quick reaction drones
  • Additional battery systems and rapid chargers
  • Vehicle-mounted inverter systems for mobile operations
  • Field vehicles to reach remote bases
  • High-performance sensors and communication hardware
  • Data processing and management software licenses

Why it matters: These tools are essential for efficient and effective patrols. Without them, significant portions of reserves will remain exposed.

2.

Technology is only as potent as the people and infrastructure required to operate it. Professional operations are expensive to run, and most reserves cannot afford this. That’s where WildSky Foundation steps in.

With your support, we cover:

  • Vehicle running costs
  • Skilled pilot training and salaries
  • Aviation licensing & compliance
  • Camp infrastructure & utilities
  • Equipment R&M

Why it matters: To ensure optimal impact is achieved by the technologies being deployed, it’s crucial they’re supported by quality people and infrastructure.

3.

WildSky Foundation not only deploys “off-the-shelf” technologies, we’re also driving the development of game-changing conservation solutions.

Our R&D projects include:

  • PACRanger ® Integrated Wildlife Tracking & Thermal Anti-Poaching Surveillance System
  • Automated incursion response
  • AI modelling for flora & fauna identification / counting

Why it matters: Innovation in conservation saves more lives, more efficiently. It means we can cover more ground, detect poachers sooner, and bring new solutions to old challenges.

4.

Skilled pilot development is crucial to continental scalability, and we’re committed to creating opportunities for passionate and purpose-driven candidates through:

  • Specialist skills and tactical training
  • Focus on real-world practical apprenticeships
  • Accreditation & long-term career support

Why it matters: Technology, handled by skilled operators, holds the key to the long-term protection of Africa’s natural resources.
